Gustavo FERNANDES


Gustavo Fernandes was born in 1964. His academic and professional journey spans 27 years across Canada and Portugal, with a significant focus on painting, which has led him to exhibit his work and establish connections in various countries. In Montreal, he attended the Mission Renaissance School of Fine Arts and the Visual and Graphic Arts program at Dawson College. He specialized in the techniques and methods of Betty Edwards as well as Drawing from the Artist Within and The Natural Way to Draw by Kimon Nicolaides. He also undertook professional training under the guidance of portrait artist Francisco de Oliveira.

Self-taught, creative, and daring, Gustavo Fernandes' work prominently features objects, landscapes, people, and details rendered with a striking hyperrealist touch. He pursues the artistic freedom he craves with unwavering dedication, employing paints, brushes, bronzes, and flashes with remarkable skill. His mastery spans painting, drawing, sculpture, and photography. His palette is varied, filled with hues and tones that he wields with rigorous technique and a strong, confident hand.

About his art, Gustavo states:
"When I start a piece, I live for it and rest only when I achieve perfection and the highest possible realism. I enjoy creating works that reflect people's lives, their daily routines, and what is essential to them."

Gustavo Fernandes' works have been showcased in numerous solo and group exhibitions and are part of several private, institutional, and public collections. He is regularly invited to give lectures on art.
