Attention ⛔️
An art gallery is, above all, a place of contemplation.
A space for discovery, admiration and silent dialogue with artistic creation. It is also a place that stimulates curiosity, critical thinking and the sensory perception of each visitor.
For this reason, the professionals who work in a gallery strive to preserve what matters most: the experience.
They usually introduce themselves, let visitors know they are available if needed, and then step back discreetly. They do not follow visitors or pressure anyone to buy. Art is never imposed — it is discovered.
However, as in any cultural environment, there are a few simple rules that help protect both the artworks and the atmosphere of the gallery.
1 — Photography
Works of art should not be photographed without the authorization of the person responsible for the gallery — and certainly not with professional photographic equipment.
The artworks displayed in a gallery remain the intellectual property of the artist. It is the gallery's responsibility to protect that work within its walls. Unfortunately, it is not uncommon for images taken in galleries to later be reproduced, printed or even sold on online platforms.
Even when taken with a phone, poor lighting or low image quality can distort the perception of the work and negatively affect its value. When necessary, official images are usually available through the artist's or the gallery's official channels.
2 — Art is admired with the eyes, not with the hands
A work of art should be appreciated visually.
Touching sculptures or paintings is unnecessary and can be harmful. Rings, watches or even the natural oils from fingers can damage a surface, leaving scratches or marks that are sometimes irreversible.
When a sculpture is scratched or a painting stained, it may lose its integrity and can no longer be exhibited or sold. In such cases, the work must often be returned to the artist, creating unnecessary costs and understandable frustration.
⸻
An art gallery exists precisely in that delicate space between two worlds that meet: the artist and the public.
Almost every gallery in the world welcomes visitors with openness and curiosity. Art thrives on this encounter.
But like any meaningful exchange, it requires one essential condition: respect for the work of others.
Thank you very much.
And please remember:
Be Smart.
